Difusal Axonal Injury (DAI): Basically, the condition is
caused when the brain shakes around violently within the skull, which happens
when there's very rapid acceleration and deceleration. Shaken Baby Syndrome is
one example of it, and in adults, you see it a lot with victims of high speed
car accidents. During that acceleration/deceleration, axons are sheared, which
is permanent. Axons are the nerve cells, or pathways on which neurons travel
(neurons basically send messages across our brain). When the axons are sheared,
there's no way to repair those pathways/nerve cells, they are permanently broken
- that means that the messages that would be sent across those nerve cells can
never be received by the part of the brain that needs to receive those messages.
And since this condition is diffuse, it means that those pathways are broken in
multiple areas of the brain.

ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry for what has happened and there are no words that can make it better. You all have been in my prayers every since Sunday when my son Gary told me what had happened. Troy was and is an awesome guy with so much love for all of you. He is now your Guardian Angel caring and watching over you, guiding you through life with his arms wrapped around you all loving you. I will always hold you near in my heart and in my prayers always. If there is ANYTHING I can do JUST let me know and I'll be there.

My Dearest Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI just heard the news and I can't tell you how sorry Randy and I are. This is such a terrible shock and we can't imagine what you are going through. I can see from all the messages that Troy and yourself are well loved. I hope that all the love that everyone has for you helps to ease some of the pain. I just keep seeing in my mind all of us together at your dad's birthday. I am so thankful to have had that time with all of you and especially Troy. He was always so much fun and never a dull moment. I don't know if you knew but Randy nicknamed him "Ever Ready" (battery)as the E R Bunny kept going on and on!! So much energy and zest for life. I know your mom and dad raised you to be a strong girl with a big heart and I know this will help you to carry on. Troy was very proud of you and his boys. I know he'll be watching over you all. I will call you soon. MUCH LOVE!! Laurie and Randy.
Dear Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI am a long-time client of Troy's. Although we have never met, Troy did speak of his family a few times. Please know that he is in a better place and his loving memories will be everlasting in you and your son's hearts.
Blessings,
Bob McCall
Dear Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI am a client of Troy's also. My deepest sympathy to you and family. Hope Troy will rest in peace. Will be thinking of you in my prayers.

Dear Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI met Troy years ago through our BNI group. I am so sad to hear about his accident. I will always remember Troy as wanting to contribute in a big way and make a difference in his family, work and community. There is no doubt he did that. His 'go for it' spirit will be missed. My last memory is of him competing at Mariner's Point laughing wildly on the water. It's a great memory.
